The Veyron features an 8.0 litre W16 engine — 16 cylinders in two banks of eight cylinders, or the equivalent of two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a “W” configuration. Each cylinder has four valves for a total of 64, but the narrow staggered 8 configuration allows two overhead camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only four camshafts are needed. The engine is fed by four turbochargers and displaces 7,993 cubic centimetres (487.8 cu in), with a square 86 mm by 86 mm (3.4 in × 3.4 in) bore and stroke. Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport

The transmission is a dual-clutch Direct-Shift Gearbox computer-controlled automatic with seven gear ratios, with magnesium paddles behind the steering wheel and a shift time of less than 150 milliseconds. This is designed and manufactured by Ricardo of England (and not Borg-Warner who designed the six-speed DSG used in the mainstream marques of the Volkswagen Group). The Veyron can be driven in either semi-automatic or fully automatic mode. A replacement transmission for the Veyron costs just over $120,000. It also features full-time permanent four-wheel drive, using the Haldex Traction system. It uses special Michelin PAX run-flat tyres, designed specifically for the Veyron to accommodate its top speed, which reportedly cost $25,000 US per set.[7] The tires can only be removed from the rims in France, a service which reportedly costs $70,000. Kerb weight is 2,034.8 kilograms (4,486 lb).[7] This gives the car a power to weight ratio, according to Volkswagen Group’s 736 kilowatts (1,001 PS; 987 bhp) figures, of 446.3 bhp per ton.

Audi presents the highlight of the IAA 2009: the e-tron, a high-performance sports car with a purely electric drive system. Four motors – two each at the front and rear axles – drive the wheels, making the concept car a true quattro. Producing 230 kW (313 hp) and 4,500 Nm (3,319.03 lb-ft) of torque, the two-seater accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 – 62.14 mph) in 4.8 seconds, and from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 – 74.56 mph) in 4.1 seconds. The lithium-ion battery provides a truly useable energy content of 42.4 kilowatt hours to enable a range of approximately 248 kilometers.

The most important development related to batteries for electric drives are lithium-ion cells. For many, it may seem hard for an automaker to claim the mantle of “The Ultimate Driving Machine” without a truly exhilarating supercar to act as a halo to define the brand.
That could explain why, following previous reports that it had canned any plans for a mid-engine supercar, new reports suggest that BMW is proceeding with development of just such a vehicle.

The supercar is supposedly projected to bow with a $110,000 sticker price about five years from now… that is, if it’s actually ever produced at all.

Nissan Motor Corp (NMC) was so proud of the GT-R. Imagine, this year they have developed the sport car and produces two variants, each GT-R SpecV and SpecM. Even the final exhibition will be on display at the Tokyo Motor Show, Japan, the end of this October.

The name ´Veyron´ is attributed to the French racing driver Pierre Veyron who won the title ´24 hours of Le Mans´ in 1939 for Bugatti. Bugatti, with its long years of experience in making the traditional racing cars since the early ´90s, tries the track in the modern era with a well-advanced version of their technology applied in the Veyron 16.4.

Offering a high performance with serious measures to ensure safety was the major concern at Bugatti while yielding a maximum performance speed of 252.3 mph (406 km/h) to this leader of the modern era racing cars. Thanks to the single-piece carbon-fiber monocoque technology that absolutely suited the Bugatti Veyron supercar and scored the maximum points at various crash tests. Adding to this perfect body structure are other safety measures such as the airbags and the PAX system applied on the wheels and tires.

Another innovative safety measure applied is the rear spoiler of this sports car that performs double action – it provides the necessary downforce at high-speed driving, and it acts as a ´parachute brake´ during sudden braking. It helps to add additional air resistance to the brakes and thus reduces the braking distance of this supercar to great extent.
